Siri AI in iOS 27.2 Can Recall Your Chats, but Check This iPhone Setting First

Apple's iOS 27.2 lets Siri AI recall past conversations and pull from voicemails and Messages photos, and the update's one privacy control, Excluded Apps, deserves a look before anything else.

Key Takeaways

  • Siri AI in iOS 27.2 can recall earlier conversations and draw on voicemails, Messages photos, Calendar attendees, Safari history and the Reading List.
  • Excluded Apps is a single setting that decides which apps Siri, Search and suggestions can access.
  • Siri AI now covers six languages, but German, Italian, Dutch, Danish, Swedish and simplified Chinese have no date in Apple’s announcement.
  • Siri AI remains a beta, skips the EU, and server-side features carry daily limits, with paid access promised later.

Apple released iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2 on October 26, the first major updates since iOS 27 arrived in September, reaching every iPhone that runs iOS 27, including the new iPhone Duo.

The headline item is revamped Siri AI landing in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish.

A telling detail in the release notes is that Siri AI can now recall earlier conversations and draw on more of what lives on the phone, which turns the update into a question about what Siri should be allowed to see.

It installs over the air through Settings, General, Software Update.

Siri AI on iPhone 16 and iPhone 15 Pro Gets Memory and Wider Sources

The Siri AI changes apply to the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and every iPhone 16 model and later.

Under Apple’s release notes, using past conversations, a user can ask about the restaurants the AI assistant recommended last week.

The material it searches has grown as well: photos attached in Messages, attendees on Calendar events, voicemails, and better results from Safari history and the Reading List.

Apple’s newsroom post describes the idea as personal context across messages, emails, and photos, the same pool these additions deepen.

The iPhone Duo’s separate notes carry the same upgrade. One practical extra, granular text selection, lets people copy just the useful part of a Siri answer instead of the entire response, as MacRumors highlights.

Siri AI Reaches Six Languages While German and Italian Users Wait

Apple’s newsroom post adds French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish to English, bringing Siri AI to six languages.

Traditional Chinese, Norwegian, Turkish and Vietnamese are promised by the end of the year, which would make ten.

Apple Intelligence itself already works in sixteen languages, as Apple Support says, so the arithmetic leaves simplified Chinese, Danish, Dutch, German, Italian, and Swedish with Apple Intelligence but no Siri AI, and no date in that announcement.

Apple calls Siri AI “profoundly more capable, conversational, and personal.”

So, a German or Italian speaker with an iPhone 16 will update to 27.2 and still not get Siri AI in their own language.

Apple’s Excluded Apps Setting Counterbalances a Hungrier Siri AI

To manage Siri’s longer memory and wider reach, Apple provides the Excluded Apps setting to choose which apps Siri, Search, and suggestions can access.

It is the first place to look after updating, because it is the one control that the notes put next to Siri’s expanded reach.

Messages suggestions follow similar logic: the feature reads conversation context to offer a calendar invite or reminder, and 9to5Mac reports that Settings lets users choose which suggestion types appear.

However, the fine print notes that Siri AI is currently in beta, unavailable in the EU and mainland China, and restricted to users 13 and older.

Features using server-side models, Siri AI among them, carry daily usage limits, and Apple says expanded access will cost money later.

The newsroom post gives no figures. That is the same open question we raised over Claude Duet: users are asked to hand an assistant more context before they know how much of it they can use.
