Apple Prepares Redesigned MacBook Pro with AI-optimized M7 Chip and New iPad Pro for 2027
Bloomberg reports suggest Apple is lining up its busiest product calendar in years, with fresh iPad Pro models, a redesigned entry-level MacBook Pro, and a new M7 chip all targeted for the first half of 2027.
Apple is reportedly preparing one of its most ambitious hardware pushes in years, with new iPad Pro tablets and a redesigned entry-level MacBook Pro both aimed at the first half of 2027.
According to Bloomberg’s reporting, the company is also racing to finish its next-generation M7 chip on the same timeline, even as ongoing component shortages and ‘unavoidable’ price hikes complicate its broader roadmap heading into the iPhone’s 20th anniversary year.
New iPad Pro Models Stay Familiar on the Outside
Apple is planning to release new 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro models in spring 2027, with no major design changes expected as the company instead focuses on internal upgrades.
Where things get interesting is under the hood: the new tablets could run either Apple’s M6 chip or the more advanced M7, both built on Apple’s new 2-nanometer manufacturing process, though only the M7 carries dedicated AI optimizations.
This hardware push builds on the 2-nanometer foundation expected to debut this September with the iPhone 18 Pro and its first 2nm A20 Pro chip.
Bloomberg’s sourcing does not confirm which chip will ultimately ship, since that likely hinges on whether M7 production is ready in time.
Apple has also been testing a vapor chamber cooling system that could boost sustained performance in the tablets, a detail that hints at more demanding on-device workloads ahead.
A Redesigned Entry-Level MacBook Pro Takes Shape
Alongside the tablets, Apple is developing a new entry-level MacBook Pro internally referred to as K104, targeted for the same early-2027 window, following a high-end MacBook Pro refresh with the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips that arrived back in March.
The laptop is expected to adopt a new design aligned with higher-end MacBook models featuring a reported touch screen, which are due between the end of this year and early next year.
Notably, Apple had already finished work on a separate refreshed entry-level MacBook Pro, codenamed J804, planned for release this year with the existing design and a base M6 chip, meaning the K104 represents a second, more dramatic redesign rather than a simple spec bump.
Chip Race and Supply Pressures Shape the Timeline
Apple is also targeting the same early-2027 period for the release of its first M7 processor, part of a broader effort to optimize its silicon for more demanding artificial intelligence workloads.
That push comes despite headwinds: Apple is dealing with severe memory and silicon shortages that have disrupted its supply chain, leaving several product schedules in flux.
Those shortages already had visible consequences when the company raised prices substantially, including a MacBook Pro configuration with 1 terabyte of storage jumping from $1,699 to $1,999.
The 2027 slate is also expected to include a new iPhone marking the device’s 20th anniversary, a second-generation foldable iPhone, Apple’s first smart glasses, and new smart home devices, positioning the iPad Pro and MacBook Pro refreshes as just one piece of a much larger product cycle.
However, Apple has not commented publicly on the reports.
