Apple’s Biggest iOS 27 Feature Finally Goes Global With iOS 27.2
The first developer beta of iOS 27.2 lands, confirming Siri AI is finally expanding beyond English while quietly skipping an entire version number.
Apple seeded the first developer beta of iOS 27.2 on Wednesday, arriving just two days after iOS 27 became available to the public on September 14.
For millions of iPhone owners outside the English-speaking regions, this beta answers the question that mattered most since launch day: when its Siri AI would actually work in their language.
iOS 27 launched with support for U.S. English only, and some users were still waitlisted for hours after installing the update, according to MacRumors.
Siri AI’s Language Wall Is Finally Coming Down
The headline change in iOS 27.2 is straightforward but significant: Siri AI now works in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish, the five languages Apple had promised for October when iOS 27 launched with U.S. English only.
That matters because Siri AI is the centerpiece of this software generation, meaning non-English-speaking iPhone owners effectively received Apple’s biggest yearly update with its main selling point disabled for weeks.
The beta also brings Siri AI’s lightweight interface and suggested actions to iPad for the first time, with support for a mouse, trackpad, or Apple Pencil when hovering over text.
9to5Mac confirmed the feature will also come to the iPhone Duo once the device ships with Pencil support.
The Redesigned Health App Arrives, But Not All of It
iOS 27.2 also brings the redesigned Health app Apple unveiled with the Apple Watch Series 12, organized into three tabs: Insights, Longevity, and Browse, as MacRumor notes.
It adds a Health Age metric based on activity, VO2 max, and sleep data, while the iPhone camera can measure flexibility, strength, and balance through guided at-home tests, as the report details.
However, CNET reporting notes that some features are still coming later.
An at-home Quest Diagnostics bloodwork panel costs $119 and covers more than 50 biomarkers, while personalized Insights recommendations will arrive later this year.
The redesigned Health app is also currently limited to U.S. English.
Why Apple Skipped an Entire Version Number
The more revealing detail is what Apple has not tested yet.
Skipping iOS 27.1 and moving straight to 27.2 is unusual, and the reason traces back to the iPhone Duo arriving on October 23.
iOS 27.1 is built around the Duo’s dual-screen hardware, vertical dock, vertical Dynamic Island, side-by-side multitasking, and device-specific camera features, as MacRumors notes.
Apple appears to be holding that code back from developer betas until closer to launch, keeping its details away from leakers and competitors, which have already taken the lead.
Yet while Apple looks ahead to the Duo, returning to delayed features like AI password repair and Messages reply suggestions in 27.2 is a subtle admission that iOS 27 landed with more loose ends than the keynote suggested.
