Berlin’s Messe convention center has spent the past week hosting IFA 2026, Europe’s largest consumer electronics show, where more than 1,900 exhibitors packed press days ahead of Friday’s public opening.

Amid appliance-heavy announcements from brands like Miele and Midea, three tech gadgets stood out for what they do rather than their specs.

A rollable laptop display that finally expands the useful way, networking hardware built for a WiFi standard that isn’t even finalized yet, and a sleep tracker that skips the wearable entirely.

Lenovo’s Project Swan Rolls a 14-Inch Laptop Into a 17-Inch Workspace

Lenovo used IFA to show Project Swan, a ThinkBook concept that rolls its OLED display from 14 inches to 17 inches with the push of a button, as Tom’s Guide’s hands-on coverage notes.

The display is reported to expand quickly without visible creases or ripples, and is being positioned as a successor to ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable, which Lenovo brought to retail last year.

The concept stands as a dramatic leap forward from Lenovo’s traditional clamshell designs in IdeaPads.

The main difference is how the display expands. The older Gen 6 model grew vertically into a taller, narrower panel, while Project Swan expands horizontally into a wider screen suited to spreadsheets, split-screen work, and video editing.

Tom’s Guide reports that the prototype is 17.9mm thick and weighs 1.6kg, roughly 3.6 pounds. It uses Intel’s Lunar Lake platform, putting it in the premium thin and light laptop class.

Lenovo has not confirmed a launch date. The previous rollable model reached stores within a year, so Project Swan could offer a preview of the next ThinkBook generation.

TP-Link introduced a router named Archer 8 Ultra and Deco 8 Ultra mesh system at IFA. Both are the company’s first products built for the unfinished WiFi 8 standard known as IEEE 802.11bn.

According to TP-Link, the Archer 8 Ultra has 18 internal antennas and delivers wireless internet speeds of up to 19Gbps, along with 10Gbps wired connectivity.

The Deco 8 Ultra mesh system is designed for whole-home coverage, with claimed speeds of up to 22Gbps wireless and 10Gbps wired. A three-unit setup is rated for about 9,800 square feet and more than 200 connected devices.

Rather than chasing raw speed numbers the way earlier Wi-Fi generations did, the company says Wi-Fi 8 is designed to fix connectivity problems people actually run into day-to-day, like dropped connections in crowded networks.

Why the Sleep Speaker Might Be the Sneaky Winner

Anker’s SleepLab Pro may draw less attention than a rollable laptop or 22Gbps router, but its approach to sleep tracking is different. 

It is a bedside speaker with a circular module inside an orb-shaped shell and a radar sensor on top. 

According to TechRadar’s coverage, the sensor tracks sleep patterns, heart rate, and breathing, then adjusts audio in real time to help users fall asleep and stay asleep.

A non-Pro variant strips out the radar tracking but keeps the music and nightlight functions. 

Notably, the SleepLab Pro also requires no monthly subscription, unlike some sleep tracking services.

The main difference is that it tracks sleep without a ring, watch, or under-mattress sensor,  and each of those introduces its own friction, whether that’s charging another device or forgetting to wear it.

A contactless sensor that sits on a nightstand removes the need to wear or charge another device. If Anker’s pricing stays close to its existing speaker lineup, it could also offer a simpler alternative to a fitness-focused smartwatch for sleep tracking.
