Meta has talked with other top AI labs about possible acquisitions. Zuckerberg even discussed with Elon Musk the idea of joining his $97 billion bid to take over OpenAI. In the end, Meta did not join, and OpenAI rejected Musk’s offer.

Midjourney, founded in 2021 by David Holz, is known for its high-quality AI image and video generation capabilities. The company’s recent video model, V1, allows users to create short videos from images. It aligns with Meta’s goals of embedding creative AI tools in its offerings to billions of users.

This partnership marks a greater shift from Meta’s previous focus on in-house AI development. As its existing tools, like Imagine and Movie Ge,n have lagged behind competitors such as Google’s Veo 3 and OpenAI’s Sora.

Meta expects its collaboration with Midjourney to accelerate the integration of AI-generated content into its platforms. It will provide users with enhanced creative tools and potentially open new avenues for content monetization.

As part of the agreement, Meta’s research teams will work closely with Midjourney to integrate its technology into future AI models and products. Their purpose is to deliver visually compelling content to users worldwide.
