Meta AI is Not Responding To Election Queries in India

Meta has recently tested its AI chatbot in India where it has received immense popularity among users. Nevertheless, the upcoming elections in Asia one of the largest countries have caused Meta to implement certain potential restrictions on specific queries related to the general election. Consequently, users are unable to ask some specific questions with this AI-powered tool. Meta has gained immense fame for its popular social media platforms including the likes of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

Challenges

While Meta AI has been implemented across the globe and millions of users are appreciating its working tendencies, Indian users have been seen using it for election queries. While the AI chatbot is quite effective in generating insights related to common issues, Meta is imposing strict restrictions on its newly launched tool to prevent it from generating any information related to election campaigns in India.

As elections play the primary role in democratic processes, any misinformation will lead to several critical concerns. To have the safe side, Meta is proactively changing the scope of its AI services during the election times. Thus, users will be protected from getting any wrong data.

Meta’s Approach

TechCrunch has detailed Meta’s approach towards improving its AI model. During the testing phase, Meta has posed certain restrictions on the queries featuring any word related to election campaigns. In this way, it prevents its chatbot from generating and delivering any kind of misleading information and data. For example, when users ask about certain politicians, officeholders, and candidates, the chatbot will automatically redirect the query to the website of the Election Commission. In this way, they can ensure accurate and official information.

Moreover. Meta has clarified that the AI systems are not always producing the exact responses. Therefore, the company is continuously looking forward to strategies to make it function more precisely. Ultimately, it can take the accuracy and reliability of the chatbot to an advanced level to deliver more relevant information during elections.

Political ads are another topic of concern and Meta has worked quite strategically to block them in almost all the countries where campaigns are running. As a result, the company is aiming to prevent the spread of potentially biased content through its platforms.

Another unique approach of Facebook’s parent company is identifying and disclosing the content generated with the help of Artificial Intelligence. It will ultimately ensure transparency and ensure that the users can easily identify the images and other content that has been generated using AI techniques.

Shortcomings

While Meta has significantly improved the functionality of its AI chatbot, there are still issues related to the Chatbot’s functionality. One common example is seen when the chatbot is asked about the India Alliance which is a political group opposing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The answer generated by this AI tool is about a politician’s name. However, when the same name is typed, no response is generated. Meta is dealing with these issues to make the outcomes more precise.
