On another hand, Musical.ly was released by a US-based company. An app that allows users to create 15-second short entertainment videos. In the year 2017, the founder company of TikTok paid $1 billion to acquire Musical.ly and then announced the merge of both apps.
During the recent Covid-19 pandemic, the popularity of TikTok climbed exceptionally and was the most downloaded app around the globe in the first quarter of 2020. According to the stats, TikTok has gained 315 million downloads in the first quarter of 2020 alone.
TikTok Logo Updates
The fundamental of the TikTok logo is the ‘note’ (symbol d). And the logo has not gone through any major changes since it was designed and introduced. There’s been a single update in the logo so far, with minor modifications.
2017 — 2018
The company has added a wordmark to the note in 2017. At that time wordmark was ‘Tik Tok’ with a space between Tik & Tok. The original TikTok logo for 2017-2018 can be seen in the following image.
2018 — Present
The TikTok logo wordmark was tweaked slightly in 2018. The glyphs themselves in the logo design looked unclear and the purpose of the update was to give them a clearer appearance. In 2018, the space between Tik & Tok was removed and the top bars of “T’s” or the “k’s” were reshaped. The wordmark has also been placed under the note.
TikTok Logo Colors, Fonts & Symbols
The company has not changed the identity of its app much over the years. The note in the TikTok logo shows the relation of the app to the entertainment and music industry.
Lets we have a closer look into the identity, colors, fonts, and symbols of the TikTok logo.
The note in the TikTok logo is made of three different colors (shade of Red, the shade of Light Aqua, or Blue and black) with a white background. The TikTok logo designer was inspired by a music concert with a dark hall and lit-up embellishments. So, he used these three colors to give the note a 3D look.
A simple sans serif font is used in the wordmark of the TikTok logo. As it is mentioned above, the name consisted of two separate words Tik & Tok. During the logo update in 2018, the space was removed to convert the wordmark from ‘Tik Tok’ to ‘TikTok’. After the modification, the font was more rounded and the don’t on ‘I’ was no longer of square shape.
